If there’s anything valuable that I have learned from Acme Achievers’ Singapore NLP Practitioner course, it must be the NLP Anchoring tool, NLP Perceptual Position and NLP Reframing Technique.
First, being able to maintain a resourceful state in adverse situations is a valuable benefit of applying NLP anchoring technique.
During one of my forex trades, I was taking a very big paper loss, which threatened to wipe out my capital. It could have been an extremely stressful period watching the losses piling up over 2 weeks.
Applying the anchoring technique kept me confident that God will give me a miracle as the anchors used reinforced faith, hope and love. Indeed a month later, the currency I was trading had an historic rally and I had a decent profit. Without applying the anchoring technique, I most probably might have panicked and close the losing trade with a huge loss.
Worse still, I might not be concentrating fully on my students’ tuition during their exams. I could lose the credible reputation that I had painstakingly established over the years. Now I can always elicit and maintain a positive and resourceful state at all times.
The next tool that I’d like to share is NLP Perceptual Position. Through the use of Perceptual positioning, it has enabled me to see, feel and identify with people better whom I had conflicts with.
For instance, a good client of mine once recommended her best friend to me. However, her best friend had certain requests that were rather inconvenient for me to fulfill. As time passed by, the issue started to generate resentment in me. Usually I’m always appreciate and am grateful to clients who help to recommend other clients to me and this particularly good client’s prolific recommendations established 40% of my private tuition business.
Thus it was very hard for me to discuss the matter with either of them for fear of spoiling the goodwill between us. Through the use of NLP perceptual positioning, I was able to understand both my clients’ point of views and positive intentions for their behaviors. This understanding allowed me to better negotiate win-win situations for all of us. Everyone was happy in the end!
Finally, the last experience that I’d like to share about applying NLP in life has to do with some negative and very unpleasant experiences I used to have with some army superiors.
Previously, I felt they were not receptive to an open culture as advocated by the Commandant of an army institution during my national service. Thus I tend to clamp up when meeting people who are of higher authority than me. This prevented me from voicing suggestions and opinions that would otherwise have been constructive. Such an impediment does not give a good impression to people who may have helped advance my career.
During the 9 days intensive Singapore NLP Practitioner course, I managed to reframe the situation by borrowing the resources of a role model. I acted as if I am a highly regarded politician. After the NLP session, a colleague from a large private school where I was working part-time invited me to her farewell lunch.
Unknown to me, the Managing Director and the Dean of Science were hosting the lunch and I was allocated a seat right in between both of them. In the past, I would have felt very uncomfortable. But this time, I just felt completely relaxed and very confident. I was able to share my opinions and suggest some ideas from my experiences with their competitors. They found my sharing very helpful to them. The lunch went on very well and I knew I had conquered this obstacle with NLP!
